Reece in Comedians at Lyric Hammersmith Oct-Nov 2009

GTJW posted this on the Local Shop forum. Reece is in a new stage show 'Comedians' at Lyric Hammersmith in Oct-Nov. Matthew Kelly, Mark Benton, David Dawson & Keith Allen also star. Its on from 7th October-14th November.

This is the synopsis from one of the theatre reviews:

"In Trevor Griffiths’ 1975 play, six wannabe comedians attend an evening class at a school in Manchester in preparation for a performance in front of London agent. Faded music hall star acts Eddie Waters acts as their tutor, in an age when comedians wore dicky bows and political correctness was decades away."

I really want to see this

Sadly I will be unable to make the trip over to catch this. Since it's running in October, it would have made a fantastic birthday present to myself .. Ah well... at least I'll have plenty of time - and money - to make it to Andy Nyman and Jeremy Dyson's play next year, so I'm pretty excited about that.

I grabbed the interview with Reece and Sean Holmes from the telegraph website.

The mustache suits him, and I like it in some way, but I prefer him without it.

Have added some pictures from the press night of Comedians to the main gallery, plus the character and miscellanous ones.

Comedians - 17/10/09

Saw this last night. It was excellent... fantastic cast and sets... it was very energetic, funny and also really moving... It's hard to really single any of them out because they were all so brilliant within their roles, however Reece and Mark were wonderful as Phil and Jed, and totally believable as siblings. Their "act" was a scream although of course it's not meant to be but the audience were howling as their act disintegrated... So glad it's those two together again as the chemistry definitely seems to be there. I think it does take great skill to be funny whilst being unfunny, if you get my drift. :-)

It's fab how they all have to play their act to the audience, made it feel very real. Simon Kunz's involved demonstrating heavy petting and he caught my eye as he did it a few times, the shame!

Reece has grown his sideburns for the role, very Bodie/Lewis Collins...yummy. They really suit him longer... in fact I love his hairstyle for this role. The moustache is quite distinguished close up, although I do prefer him clean shaven. :-) His character Phil is a real tough, hard man but when they're all back in the classroom after doing their acts, he slips straight into his Benjamin face... so cute. He looks like he needs a cuddle when he does that too :-)

Reckon that David Dawson will be probably be emaciated by the time the play ends due to how much he does in the role of Gethin... he was quite something to watch.

It was like watching a seventies version of a reality show, which in the current climate was quite odd! Some of the gags did evoke a few groans but that was always going to be the case, but some of the material was still funny. Every act was incredible but the last one... so sad yet hopeful by the end of it.

It really was excellent. I'm glad I forced myself to go even though I was pretty poorly!

I hope you're feeling better now, Ellie.

Love this quote of Reece's: "When I knew that I would be playing the brother of Mark, I knew I had to do it. We’ve worked together before and he’s great fun."

I love seeing them together!

It's a great Q and A. And a good article. I didn't know that there was a revival of it with David Tennant in 2001.

It's a lovely quote of Reece's. He really seems to enjoy working with Mark. Hopefully they will work together in some other things in the future.

Sorry if my post was a bit ranty, but I just hate seeing people treated that way. And they were very respectful towards him.

Whoever runs this site - you've done a beautiful job, you really have. But I think you are daft.

By the way you may have some tech issues, I posted earlier in the Derren Brown thread and another username was appearing. It seems to be fixed now though, but thought I would mention it.

Re: Reece in Comedians at Lyric Hammersmith Oct-Nov 2009

I got a bit vocal on how I thought Reece had been to some fans. He looked to have been a bit short with a couple of girls the other week after 'Comedians'. I was a bit ranty though, so edited my post. The guy probably had had a bad day and wanted to go home, which I hadn't considered before. I had spoken to him at the stage door after Local Show (my girlfriend is a fan) and he seemed tired and out of sorts that night, so I probably let it cloud my judgement. I totally rate him as an actor, think that he's very gifted. I just never seem to see him in a good mood! But that's not his fault I suppose.

Sorry ellieplimsolls, I hadn't read the rules before posting and I do apologse for my rant. On a lighter note Reece was fantastic as Phil in the play.

Re: Reece in Comedians at Lyric Hammersmith Oct-Nov 2009

Thanks James. It's more than likely that he was tired, especially if it was a day where he was doing two shows :s I'm blessed in that he's always been good to me when I've met him. I think he found people who wanted to meet him harder to deal with in the early days. As I say, I've encountered him a few times and he's been really sweet.

Don't worry Lou ;)

He does look utterly lovely when clean shaven.... and yet I loved the beard scruff that he grew and had during rehearsals.... Perhaps it's just all that hair above the lips, it's not his style.

Yeah, he looks gorgeous when he's clean shaven. And I agree, the scruffy beard looks much better than the moustache. I love the scruffy look too.

I've said this elsewhere, but I'll say it here, as well: The 'stache was too 70's porn actor for me - wasn't having it at all. Heh - obviously, neither was he. Although I adore a bearded Reece, clean-shaven is definitely his style.

I just can agree. He didn't look bad with it, but without a doubt he looks best when clean-shaven.
